BMW Tyres: Run-Flats, Star Marks and Staggered Sizes
BMW fits run-flat tyres to many of its cars, and those models usually have no spare wheel. A run-flat lets you drive a limited distance at reduced speed after a puncture, which is often enough to reach a safe place to wait for us. It's not a reason to keep driving: follow the limits in your handbook.
Not every BMW uses run-flats. Some models, especially M cars and some electric models, may be fitted with standard tyres and a repair kit instead. That's why we ask what's printed on the tyre rather than assuming.
Mixing Run-Flats and Standard Tyres
Fitting a standard tyre to a car set up for run-flats changes how it handles and removes the run-flat safety margin. We recommend like for like, and on the same axle the tyres should match.
Staggered Fitments
Wider rear tyres mean the wheels can't be rotated front to back. If one rear tyre is worn, check the other one too.
Locking Wheel Bolts
Many BMWs have a locking bolt on each wheel. The key is usually in the boot or glovebox. If it's missing, tell us when you call.
Safe Space to Work
We need a safe, reasonably level spot next to the car. Car parks, hotels and hospitals subject to permission, safe access and space.

Tyre Notes for BMW
Many BMWs leave the factory on run-flat tyres, marked RSC (Runflat System Component) or with a star and RFT on the sidewall. A run-flat lets you drive a limited distance at reduced speed after a puncture, so the car can be moved somewhere safe, but the tyre still needs checking and usually replacing. Most BMWs with run-flats have no spare wheel, which is why so many BMW drivers call us when the tyre pressure warning comes on. Mixing run-flat and standard tyres on the same axle is not recommended, so tell us what is currently fitted.
BMW often specifies tyres with a star marking, meaning the tyre was developed for that model. Saloons and estates commonly run 17 to 19 inch wheels, while M Sport and X models are often on 19 to 21 inch, and many have staggered sizes with wider tyres at the rear. That means front and rear tyres cannot always be swapped round, and we need both sizes from the sidewall.
Most BMWs use a locking wheel bolt, so check the glovebox or boot tray for the key before we arrive. BMW tyre pressure monitoring usually needs a reset in the iDrive menu after new tyres are fitted, and we can show you where it is. Electric BMWs, such as the i4 and iX, are heavy cars and often use XL (extra load) or HL (high load) tyres, so the load index matters as much as the size.
Fitments vary by model, year and trim, so always check the size, load index and any approval marking on your current tyre, or in the BMW handbook. Send us a photo of the sidewall on WhatsApp and we will check the right BMW tyre for you before we set off. We are independent and not approved by BMW.

BMW Mobile Tyre Fitting FAQs
Can you fit run-flat tyres on a BMW?
Yes, subject to the correct run-flat tyre being available in your size and the location being safe to work in. We confirm before setting off.
Does every BMW have run-flat tyres?
No. Many do, but some models are fitted with standard tyres. Look for 'RSC' or 'Run Flat' on the sidewall, or send us a photo.
What does the star on my BMW tyre mean?
It shows the tyre was made to BMW's specification for that car. Keeping a star-marked tyre is usually the best match, and we'll tell you what's available.
Can a run-flat tyre be repaired?
Sometimes, if the damage is small and in the central tread area and the tyre hasn't been driven far while flat. Many tyre makers advise replacing it, so we check it first.
My BMW tyre warning came on. What should I do?
Slow down and stop somewhere safe as soon as you can. Check the tyre, then call us. Don't keep driving on a tyre that looks or feels damaged.
Do you cover Windsor?
Yes. Windsor is part of our everyday coverage, along with the rest of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Surrey and West London. Mobile tyre fitting in Windsor
How can I pay?
By card or cash. We confirm the tyre options and the total price with you before arranging the visit.
How soon can you get to me?
We aim to arrive within 30 minutes, depending on your location, traffic and technician availability. It's a target, not a guarantee, and we give you an estimate when you call.
