Audi Tyre Markings and What They Mean
Certain models may specify particular tyre types or approvals. We will need to check the correct specification for your vehicle. On an Audi you may see AO, AOE or RO1 on the sidewall. Matching the marking keeps the car closest to how it left the factory, though the size, load and speed rating matter most.
Many Audis use quattro all-wheel drive. A brand new tyre next to a worn one on the same axle gives a slightly different rolling size, so we ask about tread depth on the other tyres and explain if a pair makes more sense.
e-tron Models
Electric Audis are heavy, so the load index has to match. Some tyres carry foam inside to reduce noise, which affects repair options.
S and RS Models
Wide, low-profile sizes with high speed ratings. Some are not carried every day, so availability is checked first.
Run-Flats
If your sidewall says AOE or run flat, replace it with the same type, subject to the right tyre being available.

Tyre Notes for Audi
Audi often specifies tyres marked AO or AOE on the sidewall. AO means the tyre was developed for Audi; AOE means it is an Audi-approved run-flat, which some models use. A3 and A4 models commonly run 17 to 19 inch wheels, while S line, RS and Q models are often on 19 to 22 inch. Certain models may specify particular tyre types or approvals, so give us the full marking.
Electric Audis in the e-tron and Q4 e-tron range are heavy and normally need XL (extra load) or HL (high load) tyres, and some have a foam layer inside to reduce noise. The load index matters as much as the size on these cars.
Most Audis use locking wheel bolts, with the key usually in the boot tray or glovebox. Many have no spare wheel and only a repair kit. Quattro cars are sensitive to differences in tread depth between front and rear, so we may suggest replacing tyres in pairs. Tyre pressure monitoring usually needs a reset in the MMI menu after new tyres.
On quattro cars, uneven wear between front and rear tyres can put strain on the drivetrain, so it helps to check all four tyres together rather than just the damaged one.
Fitments vary by model, year and trim, so always check the size, load index and any approval marking on your current tyre, or in the Audi handbook. Do I need an AO-marked tyre on my Audi?
It's the closest match, but not the only safe option. A tyre of the correct size, load index and speed rating is what matters most, and we explain what's available.
Can I replace just one tyre on a quattro?
Often yes, if the other tyre on that axle still has plenty of tread. If it's well worn, we may suggest a pair. Your handbook gives Audi's own guidance.
Can you fit tyres on an Audi e-tron?
Yes, subject to the right load-rated tyre being available and the car being lifted safely at its marked points where it's parked.
Are you Audi approved?
No. Rapid Tyre Rescue is an independent 24/7 mobile tyre fitting service, not connected to Audi. We fit tyres to your car's specification at your location.
Can you fit a tyre on my Audi at home?
Yes, on a driveway or the road outside, as long as there is a safe, reasonably level space next to the car. Car parks are subject to permission.
